About this course

Content

The course covers:

  • The structure, characteristics and function of carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, nucleic acids and biological membranes.
  • Metabolism of carbohydrates, lipids and amino acids.
  • Replication, transcription and translation.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge: The student can:

  • Explain the structure and characteristics of biochemical macromolecules
  • Explain replication, transcription and translation
  • Explain and understand the biological role of metabolic processes and their regulation
  • Explain metabolic reactions

Skills: The student is able to apply biochemistry to theoretical problems related to biological processes.

Competencies: The student is able to utilize and communicate knowledge of biochemical processes as they apply to other topics within the field of Biomedical laboratory science.

Teaching methods

Lectures and exercises. Four exercises where three must be accepted before the exam. Expected total workload per student: 200 hours. Approximately 70 of those hours are scheduled activities such as lectures, theoretical exercises and group work.
