Materials Technology 2

The following topics are included; phase transformations, microstructure evolution and structure-properity relations in engineering materials like steels, light metals (e.g Al), ceramics and composites. Also the subject corrosion will be addressed.

The subject is a continuation of TMT4171 Materials Technology 1. The objective is to give a broad overview of the microstructure and properties of the most important structural materials that are currently used in industry. The students will also get training in scientific writing and oral presentation using PowerPoint.

Lectures, exercises, project assignments and presentations. Portfolio assessment is the basis for the grade in the course. The portfolio includes a final written exam (60%) and project assignment + presentation (40%). The results for the different parts are given in %-scores, while the entire portfolio is assigned a letter grade. If there is a re-sit examination, the examination form may change from written to oral.
