About this course
Content
The topic consists of two parts:
Mechanics(Part of TKT4122 Mechanics 2): Forces/stress distributions in constructions under loading in 3 dimensions.Tresca and von Misse flow criteria etc.(See TKT4122)
Materials: Production and use of construction materials (steels, aluminium, magnesium,...)and of of some functional materials
Practical lab. and workshop topics (grinding, welding, heat treatment, etc.).Compulsory cources in HES(Health, environment and security)
Learning outcomes
In the mechanics part the students will get a solid basis in solid state mechanics. Equations for force equilibrium like support forces, internal stresses and moments in statically determined structures. A deeper understanding of plastic deformation by applying Tresca and Mises yield criteria. In the materials part the students will get a deeper understanding of materials production and their properties after various heat treatments. Laboratory - and work shop practice by producing simple components by casting and welding. Design and produce a knife. The course shall motivate the students for future studies of materials technology and give a background for making decisions on later specializations.
Teaching methods
Lectures, exercises, laboratory exercises and workshop engineering. Final grade in the course is based on portfolio assessment. The portfolio includes written final examination (75%) and laboratory exercises/Safety course (25%). The evaluation of the different parts is given in %points while the final grade for the whole folder is given by a letter grade. If there is a re-sit examination, the examination form may change from written to oral.
