About this course

Content

The following topics are included; phase relations, microstructure evolution and structure-properity relations in engineering materials like iron and steels, light metals (Al, Mg, Ti),ceramics, polymers and composites. Also electrical, magnetic and optical properties of functional materials are included.

Learning outcomes

The subject is a continuation of TMT4170 Materials Technology 1. The objective is to give a broad overview of the microstructure and properties of the most important structural and functional materials that are currently used in industry.

Teaching methods

Lectures, exercises, project assignments and presentations. Portfolio assessment is the basis for the grade in the course. The portfolio includes a final written exam (60%) and exercises (40%). The results for the parts are given in %-scores, while the entire portfolio is assigned a letter grade. If there is a re-sit examination, the examination form may change from written to oral.
