Basic Organic Chemistry and Laboratory

The lectures and exercises cover basic organic chemical concepts such as chemical structures and nomenclature, stereochemistry and an examination of the principal functional groups of carbon compounds and the relationship of their structure to physical and chemical properties.

The course will give the student knowledge of basic organic chemistry. The laboratory course teaches practical laboratory work.

Chemistry TKJ4100 is the course in basic organic chemistry for students enrolled in the Ms.Tech. program. The course is an alternative to KJ1020 for the M.Sc. students. Chemistry TKJ4100 consists of lectures with exercises and a practical laboratory course. The laboratory course is taught bi-weekly (65 hours).The laboratory course is evaluated; pass / fail. Before the final examination the students must meet all the minimum requirements for the theoretical as well as the laboratory part of the course. To pass the course, the theoretical exercises and the laboratory course must be approved separately, and a passing grade for the final examination is required. If there is a re-sit examination, the examination form may change from written to oral.
