Mental Disorders

This course provides an introduction to psychopathology and the most common psychological disorders, in addition to how they can be understood through different theoretical perspectives. This encompasses the features and symptoms of these common psychological disorders, including explanations regarding how different biological, psychological and social factors contribute to the formation and retention of psychological disorders. The course will also provide a brief introduction to the types of treatment approaches that are used when treating different psychological problems.

Upon passing the course, the student will have achieved the following learning outcomes:

Knowledge:

The student has a foundational knowledge of psychopathology and how this can be understood through different theoretical perspectives. The student has a foundational knowledge of the distinguishing features and symptoms of the most common psychological disorders. The student is familiar with the therapy treatments that are used when handling various different psychological problems.

Skills

The student can identify the central issues within the field of psychopathology and write about the core approaches. The student can describe the most common disorders and the possible risk factors that contribute to them. The student has a strong command of the relevant academic forms of expression within the subject area.

General competence:

The student has an insight into the relevant academic and ethical issues connected to the field of psychopathology.

Lectures 2 hours each week.

Limited admission to classes.

Exam registration requires that class registration is approved in the same semester.
