Mental Disorders

This course will try to give an introduction into psychopathology and mental disorders, and how this topic is understood from different perspectives. The most common psychiatric disorders will be reviewed both related to symptoms and different ways to treat these disorders.

Knowledge:
The student has a basic understanding of psychopathology, and how this can be understood from different theoretical perspectives.
The student has knowledge of the signs and symptoms of the most common psychological disorders.
The student has a basic understanding of the different biological, psychological and social factors that contribute to the formation and maintenance of psychiatric disorders.
The student has knowledge of psychiatric therapeutic treatment approaches used in the treatment of different psychological problems.
The student can describe the most common psychological disorders, causes and treatment of these approaches.

Skills:
Students do not develop specific skills in this course, but students learn about the most important issues and can describe the main approaches in the field.

General competence:
The student develops general knowledge that provides the basis to understand and acquire the basic knowledge in mental disorders and psychological treatment.

Lectures 2 hours each week, studygroups.
Some lectures might be given in English.
