Social Environment and Social Relations among Children and Youth

The course focus on topics related to the different contexts for social environment and relations among children and youth (e.g. school, home, local environment and surroundings, leisure). Emphasis will be put on research and theory about adolescence, socialization, physical environments, attitudes, stereotypes, self concept and gender.

The aim is to attain theoretical perspectives on different relationships that have influence on the development of social environment and relations among children and youth.
The student will, through the individual assignment, learn how to express him/her-self and learn how to use literature as a mean of investigation. Through the interaction in lectures and seminars, and the written assignment, the students will show insight in to and the ability to discuss questions regarding social interaction and the social environment amongst children and youth in kindergarten, school, and pastime activities.

2 hours of lectures per week, 1 hour of seminar per week. Teaching may be concentrated in specific periods during the term.

Compulsory Activity: Approved written assignment.

Form of assessment: Individual written report (10-15 pages).

If less than 10 students sign up for the course it may be cancelled.
