About this course

Content

The course provides an in-depth look at questions related to motivation, social interaction, and mental health in school, working life and leisure time. The topics are discussed in light of selected theories and relevant research. Particular emphasis will be placed on a health-promoting perspective.

Learning outcomes

The course provides students with theoretical insight, research-based knowledge, and understanding of methodological approaches within the field. Through curriculum literature, lectures, and seminars with active participation and independent work, students should acquire insight into, and the ability to discuss, questions concerning:

  • motivation and self-concept.
  • how different social contexts, attitudes, stereotypes, and gender are related to learning, motivation, self-concept, and mental health.

The students should acquire skills in:

  • discussing how theories can be applied in different contexts such as school, work, and spare time.
  • analyzing different social contexts and learning environments, and reflect on potential improvements.
  • thinking critically and reflecting on their own motivation, learning, and behavior.

Teaching methods

The teaching consists of lectures and seminars and is carried out in teaching modules. Normally, this means 3 modules/sessions, each consisting of 2 full days. In addition, there will be a writing seminar and student-active assignments.
