Writing and Study Skills for Media Studies

How to read like a media studies student? What characterises the scholarly literature witin media studies, and what is required of an academic assignment within this university discipline? This course develops basic knowledge and skills in reading and writing academic texts in media studies. The course forms part of the one-year-unit and the bachelor programme in media studies.

Knowledge
Upon completing the course, students will have:
- basic knowledge of textual genres in the scholarly literature of media studies
- knowledge about resources and techniques for studying media
- knowledge of source citation and academic reference systems that are relevant to media studies

Skills
After completing this course, students will be able to:
- make use of sources and resources specific to media studies in order to fulfill a set assignment
- make correct use of sources and appropriate reference systems
- plan and organise their daily studies

Learning activities in this course include lectures, group tutorials, and individual assignments.

Students are responsible for checking Blackboard for updates, changes, or other messages relating to the course.
