About this course

Content

The course provides an introduction to electronic- and optical principles that are used in analysis methods in the laboratory. Analytical methods process, quality assurance and result assessment. It focuses on optical techniques, with their basic principles, construction and application, calibration og calculation with Beer's law. In addition, electrochemistry and chemical sensors: basic electrochemical principles, construction and application of chemical and biological electrodes/sensors

Learning outcomes

The candidate has knowledge of;

  • simple circuits
  • particle- and wave properties for electromagnetic radiation
  • basic principles for selected analytical methods and instruments
  • quality assurance
  • electrochemistry and the principles of chemical-, bio- and optical sensors

The candidate can (skills);

  • make calculations on simple circuits and make calculations on effects such as refraction and reflection of electromagnetic radiation
  • use key instrumental techniques to analyze analytes
  • quality assure own work in the laboratory
  • understand calibration and make calculations of the content of analytes in unknown samples

The candidate can (general competence);

  • work independently and in groups
  • master various techniques and instruments for laboratory analysis
  • understand which physical principles selected analytical methods and measurement techniques are based upon
  • assess the accuracy and precision of analytical methods
