Disability and Society

The course gives an overview of historical, ideological and theoretical perspectives on disability. Both politics and everyday life issues are adressed. Political changes/reforms are discussed together with research on changes in the everyday life of disabled people. General theory of deviance, difference and social problems will be presented. The course will also adress current topics.

The course is the theoretical core of the Master in Disability and Society, and is intended to provide understanding of different perspectives on disability and disabking processes, consequences for Research, recent Research findings and the relation to disability politics.

Seminars and written papers. Compulsory Activity: two written papers during autumn semester, and approval of theme and reading list in spring semester.
