Theories and Aesthetics of Film

FILM1014 is a basic course focused on the history and development of film theory.

Knowledge

Upon successful completion of this course, students will know film theory and film theoretical debates since the silent area. The students can thus give an account of theories concerning
- film and reality
- film and society and
- the film experience
As well as knowledge of traditions within film analysis.

Skills

Upon successful completion of this course, students can give an account of
- the history of film theory and the development of different theoretical positions
- the role of film within the development of society at large.

Lectures, film screenings, tutorials: including advice on writing techniques and feedback on written assignments.

Students are required to check the result of their assignments and to stay updated on any information provided by the department or course director via Blackboard.
