Introduction and Performance Analysis

The course provides an introduction to how the drama and theater field looks today. The students are presented with a wide theater field, from institutional theater to the free performing arts field, and various forms of drama and theater in school, working life and leisure. Performance analysis is central to the subject, which involves compulsory theater visits and work on describing and analyzing theater events. Through theory and practice, students will acquire basic vocational terminology.
Themes for teaching will be the subject's individuality, aesthetic expressions and academic writing.

Knowledge
Upon passing the exam, students will have:
- knowledge of academic thinking and writing methods based on study objects / expressions that are central to the discipline
- knowledge of various drama and theater forms and phenomena in today's Norwegian society
- knowledge of theater and performance analysis concepts and models

Skills
On passing an exam, the student should be able to:
- apply subject specific academic thinking and writing methods for understanding, assessment, analysis and discussion of study objects and forms of expression within the discipline
- apply basic terminology in the description and analysis of phenomena in the field
-interpret and analyze theatrical expressions

Instruction includes lectures, seminars, plays / performances and exercises where reading and writing practice is in focus. It is the mandatory for the student to be informed about current messages from the department or trainee via Blackboard, and become known with the result of exercises via Blackboard.

Teaching is usually conducted in Norwegian, but may take place in English.
