Performance Analysis

The course gives an introduction to the contemporary field of drama and theatre. A wide range of forms and phenomena are presented, from state funded theatre to the independent theatre companies, and various forms of theatre in schools, work life and leisure activities. The students will acquire an introduction to basic terminology through a combination of theory and practice. Performance analysis is central to the course. This means the students will have to attend visits to theatre performances, as basis for analysis and interpretation.

Upon successful completion of this course, students will have:

- Knowledge about different forms and phenomena in drama and theatre, in the Norwegian society today
- Knowledge about concepts and models related to theatre, performance, and play analysis Knowledge about basic methods for improvisation
- Knowledge about basic academic terminology

Upon successful completion of this course, students will know how to:

- Interpret and analyze theatrical expressions.
- Use basic academic terminology in both oral and written form
- Manage basic methods of improvisation
- Use basic academic terminology to describe and analyse phenomena in the field

The course consists of lectures, seminars, group instruction, practice sessions and performances.

Students are required to check their assignment results on Blackboard.
Students are required to keep updated on messages from the department or the lecturers on Blackboard.
