About this course

Content

The course introduce the students to coaching physical activity and training. Through varied work methods, students will learn how to plan, organize, implement and evaluate physical activity tailored to the needs of individuals and groups focused on creating mastery, improved health and performance development.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

The student has knowledge of

  • planning, implementation and evaluation of physical activity and training for both individuals and groups
  • basic didactic principles for coaching physical activity and training
  • different theories and methods related to coaching physical activities and training for both individual and groups
  • relevant sports pedagogical and sports psychology subject themes
  • the body's prerequisites for physical activity and good health
  • disease preventive and health promotion related to physical activity for different groups in the population

Skills

The student can

  • plan, organize, implement and evaluate physical activity for people and groups of different skill levels and with different aims
  • apply knowledge about the body's anatomy, physiology, motoric, and the functioning of the movement apparatus in a coaching situation
  • make use of a repertoire of exercises and practical methodological tools to develop other people's motor skills and skills in physical activity and sports
  • evaluate group dynamics and adapting coaching to different groups
  • apply knowledge about digital communication of physical activity and training
  • apply different motivation and feedback theories
  • self-reflect over own coaching of physical activity

General competence

The student

  • has insight into ethical issues related to the role of a physical activity coach for single individuals and groups
  • is able to exchange views and experiences of theories in the field of teaching physical activity and movement science, thereby contributing to the development of the subject field
  • can inspire and facilitate a good coaching situation
  • can act properly and show respect and empathy for single practitioners and training environments

Teaching methods

The course has lectures throughout the whole semester. Teaching activities include lectures, exercises, group work and practical training.
