ICT, Communication and Development of Knowledge

Starting point: The media which are part of inter-human communication are studied as part of this communication. New electronic media creates new arenas for communication and new premises regarding how communication is conducted and can be interpreted.
Content: The course provides an understanding of new electronic communication media. It presents a human and pragmatic view of computer technology and the role this technology has in communication, and focuses on how meaning is created in language and technology. The course provides knowledge of ICT-mediated communication in different arenas in leisure, studies and work. The course enables its participants to handle and evaluate the functions of electronic communication technology and assess what role these can play in their own work with development of knowledge and exchange of information.

Students should be able to understand and describe the function that various electronic media can play in communication. The students will be able to understand and describe different communication practices in which ICT is important. They will develop familiarity with the use and assessment of ICT as a tool for reflection and communication.

Lectures, laboratory exercises, seminars and group work.
More on assessment: Obligatory group exercises must be approved before the candidate can write the take-home exam. The size of each group exercise must be between 3-8 typed A4-pages (line spacing 1.5). The exam is a take-home exam where the work is done in groups. The size of the take-home exam depends partly on the subject, but is usually between 10-20 typed A4-pages (line spacing 1.5).
