Cultural Heritage Management and Museum Studies

The course is divided in two modules. Module I deals with cultural heritage management and is directed at management theory in the form of the philosophy of preservation, bureaucratization and the cultural heritage field as a political arena, including managemnet history and the structure of the management system. This module also includes an overview of the relevant regulations and processes such as consequence analysis, planning processes and the problematics of registration. Module II, with Museology as theme, focuses primarily on the various aspects of dissemination of knowledge of the past. The main theme is the differing methods of communication such as display methods, popular science publications and lectures, guided tours, dissemination in a field situation and media involvement. This module also treats such aspects as motives behind, the need for and the effect of dissemination.

To give in-depth insight into the theory of cultural heritage management and museum knowledge, with special weight on dissemination of knowledge.
