About this course
Content
The course focuses primarily on the various aspects of dissemination of knowledge of the past. The main theme is the differing methods of communication such as display methods, popular science publications and lectures, guided tours, dissemination in a field situation and media involvement. The course also treats such aspects as motives behind, the need for and the effect of dissemination.
Learning outcomes
According to the course curriculum, a candidate who passes this course is expected to have the following learning outcome (defined as knowledge and skills):
Knowledge:
The candidate has attained
- thorough insight into the role and function of present day museums, and broad knowledge of various methods of disseminating knowledge of the past, orally and in writing, in museums and the field
Skills:
The candidate has acquired
- practical experience with various methods of disseminating knowledge of cultural remains and cultural history, and thorough insight into the need for and effect of dissemination in relation to other societal interests
Teaching methods
Lectures and seminars. The exam consist of a written assignment of maximum 4000 words
