Creating Archaeological Knowledge

This course provides students increased insight into what archaeology is, how the discipline came to be, and what role it has played in different societies, both in the present and in the past. Through this, a view of the mechanisms governing the discipline, both internally and externally, is achieved.

According to the course curriculum, a candidate who passes this course is expected to have the following learning outcome (defined as knowledge and skills):

Knowledge:
The candidate has attained
- deeper knowledge of the archaeological research process, with emphasis on general philosophy of science and its influence on the discipline

Skills:
The candidate has acquired skills to
- utilize various theoretical approaches as a basis for further study of Norwegian archaeology, within research as well as management and dissemination

Lectures and seminars. The exam consist of a written assignment of maximum 6000 words
