Archaeological Production of Knowledge II

The course focuses on how archaeology as subject has evolved. Through this, a knowledge of the mechanisms that govern the discipline and relationships between epistemology and society. The course places particular emphasis on periodical and material-specific methods of analysis and the underlying theories that legitimize the choice of source material and methods. The course is particularly relevant for scope and choice of method for the thesis. Tuition is planned in conjunction with the development of the project outline in ARK 3000.

A candidate who has passed the course is expected to have the following learning outcomes defined as knowledge and skills:

The candidate

• has deepened knowledge of the archaeological research process, with particular emphasis on general science and its influence on art
• has specialized knowledge of archaeological analysis, and the relationship between theory, empirical and analytical grip

Skills

The candidate

• can use various theoretical and methodological approaches as a basis for developing their own archaeological work in the thesis, as well as further research, management, dissemination and teaching
