Knowledge about geographical information systems (GIS) as important tools for urban/regional spatial planning. Introduction to, and training with GIS applications, such as ArcGIS, ArcGIS Pro or QGIS.

Læringsmål

Knowledge: The functionality and operation of geographic information systems (GIS). Basic geographical data and reference systems, cartography and cartographic methods, relevant to the needs and scope of urban/regional planning. Data structures, data models and geographic / spatial analysis techniques that are used for examination and presentation of the plan base, plan presentation and impact analysis. Data sources and their use in analysis and planning.

Skills: Facilitation of geographical data in a GIS, preparation for analysis or design purposes. Basic design and editing work using GIS tools. The use of 2D and 3D for presentation of plan base and results in an understandable manner. Use of GIS functions for plan-oriented analysis of localization or impacts of plan implementation.

General competence: to make use of acquired knowledge and skills solving a variety of tasks related to geographic analysis and spatial planning.

Læringsformer og aktiviteter

Lectures and training workshops.The course will be taught as a concentrated module, covering full days over 2 weeks in the beginning of the spring semester.
