Lean Production and Quality Management

The subject presents Lean as a philosophy, set of principles and a set of practices which is used to establish efficient processes maximising performance and value creation for customer by minimal use of resources. The course explains them independent of the particularity of the processes. For a transformation into Lean in form of realization of these basic principles and practices, some essential tools and methods from Lean Toolbox and their application areas are explained.

Knowledge about:

• Lean philosophy, principles and practices and there impact on production- and quality management
• Lean as a compass for continuous improvement and improvement cycles
• Lean toolbox and some of its applications

Skils for:

• creating value stream maps for critical processes, thereby identifying waste and obstacles for creating flow in production
• Identifying quality problems and systematically eliminate the root causes
• planing systematic improvement work
• Establishing systems for visual management and its implementation

General competence and understanding about:

• production and quality assurance
• systematic problem solving
• contribution to and disseminating of knowledge about lean through interdisciplinary teamwork
• creating and applying best practices

• The course includes teaching at sessions as well as emphasis on work requirements / exercises during and between sessions. The forms of work vary and can include lectures, work in groups, discussions and presentations.
