Language Proficiency 2

The competence the students have acquired in their first semester of German studies is further developed in this course. Written and oral proficiency in German is practiced and further developed through exercises in proficiency. These exercises are related to different types of texts and cultural expressions found in contemporary German culture. The students must regularly produce texts or other works in German, for example translations, blog posts or videos.

KNOWLEDGE

The candidate

- has knowledge of and can understand different types of text (for example news broadcasts, stories, and other forms of expression) and can grasp the viewpoints and attitudes being conveyed

- has knowledge of important features of various text types and forms of expression from the contemporary German-speaking culture

- has knowledge of central aspects of German phrase structure

SKILLS

The candidate

- is able to understand and communicate in both written and oral German at B2 level

- is able to read, understand and discuss different types of German texts

- is able to write a coherent German text

- is able to use digital learning resources in a critical and ethically responsible manner

GENERAL COMPETENCE

The candidate

- is able to reflect on linguistic and cultural differences between Norwegian and German and make use of this in both oral and written German

Lectures, group sessions, practical work with assignments and oral presentations. Compulsory assignments:

- 75% mandatory attendance (in lectures and seminars)

The absence limit is intended to cover normal sick leave and similar situations. Therefore, you will not be granted valid absence from teaching based on a medical certificate, even if the absence is due to circumstances beyond your control.

In special cases, agreements for exemption can be made with the course coordinator, preferably at the start of the semester.

- 4-6 presentations/assignments (exact requirements given at the start of the semester)

Teacher-training students can choose to submit one of the compulsory assignments with a didactic focus.

Students attending the language course in Kiel in January will have one assignment from that course approved.

Approved obligatory assignment is valid for 2 semesters (the semester in which the approval is given, plus the following semester). As part of this course, the students will get the opportunity to go to Kiel for a 4-week long language course at The German-Norwegian study centre in Kiel in January.
