German and Germany today

The first part of the course, proficiency, focuses on oral and written proficiency in German. A study of different types of German texts gives students insight into different registers and grammatical and stylistic devices in communication. The other part of the course, civilization, focuses on today's multi-cultural German society. Aspects such as Germany and the EU, Germany and the USA, ethnic and religious minorities or Norway in German literature are discussed in light of recent German history.

Students should improve their written and oral abilities, develop their lexicon and grammatical insight, and be able to communicate adequately in different communication situations. Students should gain insight into today's multi cultural German society.

Students can choose this course in stead of TYSK1302. The course is taught in Kiel. It has two parts, one in proficiency and one in civilization. Both parts are obligatory. Teaching in the form of lectures/seminars and group sessions. Students are expected to participate actively.
