About this course

Content

The course addresses methods for numerical solution of ordinary differential equations, partial differential equations and sets of linear equations, gradient based and derivative free optimization techniques, automation and cybernetics, and basic techniques for machine learning useful for engineers and geoscientists.

Learning outcomes

The course aims at giving the students experience in use of computational methods to solve problems in engineering and geoscience.

Knowledge: The students should acquire knowledge about basic numerical techniques applied to problems from engineering and geoscience, including fundamental understanding of computational cost of different algorithms.

Skills: The students should be capable of writing programming routines for the numerical solution of problems in engineering and geoscience.
