About this course

Content

The course provides an introduction to key concepts, objectives and background of cognitive and classic ergonomics and universal design. The course addresses theoretical topics and practical guidelines and methods in cognitive and classic ergonomiog universal design suitable for use in design processes.

Contents:
Anthropometrics
Physiological characteristics of humans with relevance to design
Perception and cognition of information associated with the design and user interface
Task Analysis
health, safety and environment

Lectures in Norwegian only.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge:
The motivation and development of ergonomics and user centered design. Ethnographic methods for information. Basic anthropometrics and physiology of the senses. Mans physical properties, including universal design. Cognitive themes in usability and information ergonomics.

Skills:
Search, reading and writing scientific papers. Ability to analyze users, tasks and their loads with focus on designing of better products. First experience with conducting a user test.

General qualifications:
Candidates will be able to do simple task analysis, user testing, and user centered design.

Teaching methods

Lectures and exercises. Students will do a use analysis and user test on an existing product The work will be reported in a scientific paper which counts 100% for the final grade. The workshop will be used for building test materials.
