Human - Machine - Interaction

An introduction to central concepts, goals and background for human machine interaction and ergonomics. Theoretical issues in cognitive ergonomics and classical ergonomics. Methods and theory for analysis, design and evaluation in a user centered design process will be discussed in depth in connection to basic principles of cognition and anthropometrics. Lectures and Textbooks in Norwegian only

Knowledge:
The motivation and development of ergonomics and user centered design. Ethnographic methods for information. Basic Anthropometrics and physiology of the senses.Cognitive themes in usability and information ergonomics.

Skills:
Search, reading and writing scientific papers. Ability to analyse users, tasks and context of use. Firs experience with conducting a user test.

General qualifications:
Candidates will be able to do simple task analysis, user testing, and user centered design

Lectures and exercises. Students will do a use analysis and user test on a design project (usually PD4 Form and Function). The work will be reported in a scientific paper which counts 100% for the final grade. The workshop will be used for building test materials.
