About this course
Content
The course is assembled from two modules of 3.75 credits each, all together 7.5 credits. Each student should consult with his/her supervisor and select two modules from this list: TMM5 Joining technology, TMM6 Composite structures, TMM9 Mechanical integrity, TMM10 Robust material selection and design. At least one module must be selected from the list above. The student may in agreement with his/her adviser select a 2nd 3.75 credits course from one of the other specializations in the department (TMM4506 and TMM4545).
Learning outcomes
The courses give deeper understanding in key subjects related to the student's project work.
Knowledge: Depending on the topic of the project selected, the courses shall give the student in-depth knowledge on principles, methods, tools related to engineering materials and applications, product development, simulation and analysis of components and structures, manufacturing and experimental methods.
Technical skills: The student shall master the following: Apply and combine knowledge from selected topics to formulate problems and develop a strategy for stematic problem solving. Demonstrate all it takes to model problems and evaluate the validity and applicability of the results. Ability to understand, communicate and put the results in a broader context.
General competence: The student shall on general basis be able to use captured knowledge and capabilities for systematic solving of engineering problems, as well as provide capability to be contribute in limited-scope research work.
Teaching methods
The modules are given as seminars and guided self-study courses, including exercises. Given in English when non-Scandinavians are present. If the teaching is given in English the Examination papers will be given in English only. Students are free to choose Norwegian or English for written assessments. If there is a re-sit examination, it may be changed from written to oral. The grade in the course is based on the average of both modules. However, in order to be eligible to receive this grade, both modules must receive a passing score.
