The students should:
- Have a basic understanding of the design process from idea to 3D-model
- Know the commonly used methods for 3D-modeling and variant design
- Be able to prepare documentation and 2D machine drawings according to ISO Standard
- Be able to evaluate design and material selection with regard to sustainability

Skills:
- Be able to carry out "Feature-based", parametric modeling
- Be able to realize a product as a 3D-model with drawings and documentation
- Be able to do simple simulations of the model
- Be able to design creative solutions and visualize them
- Be able to print a 3D-model with additive manufacturing

General competence:
- Be able to present and justify choices in the form of reports.

Further information:

For Flexible engineering education:
- The course will mainly be carried out as an online course.
- There will be up to 3 seminar days according to plan distributed at the beginning of the semester. Attendance at the seminar days is recommended.
- An online course means that all communication between tutor and student is organised through a digital learning platform.

For all:
- The course requires that the software SolidWorks is used for exercises and assignments (free student version available).

For Campus students:
- NTNU has limited availability on PCs, so use of own laptop is required (the machine must be suitable for CAD).

Compulsory Requirements:
- For Campus students there will be up to 3 compulsory seminar days according to plan distributed at the beginning of the semester (provided that large enough rooms are available).
- 2 major assignments must be delivered according to plan and approved in order to take the final assignment.
