Carbohydrates, polysaccharides .Amino acids and chemical structure of proteins. Enzymes, kinetics and mechanism. Carbohydrate metabolism. Principles for energy transfer in living cells, Lipid metabolism including biosynthesis and degradation of fatty acids. Nucleic acid structure, replication , transcription and protein biosyntheses.

To give a basic introduction to the chemical structure and function of biomolecules, metabolism, energy generation and transfer in the cell, molecular genetics and protein biosynthesis.

Lectures, laboratory exercises, reports. The midterm test (semesterprøve) is optional and will only count in positive direction. If the test is not submitted or the result is lower than that obtained on the final exam, the grade obtained in this course will only be based on the final exam. If there is a re-sit examintartion, the examination form may be changed from written to oral.
