Sociology of Family and Childhood

This course introduces the students to family sociology and the understanding of childhood. Emphasis will be on family structure, the functions of the family, family relations, and the relationship between the family and children. Changes in the relationship between families, children and the society in general will be analyzed in the light of recent Norwegian and International research.

Knowledge – the student shall:
* through the presentation and review of central theories and approaches, receive a basic sociological understanding of the area of family, children and parenthood.

Skills - the student shall demonstrate the ability:
* to use the central theories and approach to analyze actual issues in the field of family, children and parenthood.

2-4 hours of lectures and seminars every week throughout the semester according to the lecture plan. The compulsory activity can only be completed in the spring semester.
