Social Science Perspectives on Natural Resource Management

Current environmental problems such as spatial conflicts, deforestation and water shortages are discussed. Further, the course gives a brief introduction to basic demographic concepts and models, as well as traits in the development of global populations. Emphasis is placed on presenting different ways of looking at the relationship between economic growth, population growth, poverty, and environmental deterioration.
The course will be given in the spring and autumn semester, but the lectures in the autumn will partly be online.

Knowledge: The course aims to provide students with knowledge about key perspective on resource and environmental management, as well as different views on the relationship between resources, population growth, economy and environment. Skills: Could reflect on concepts and approaches related to current issues surrounding the environment, resources and management. General competence: Have experience in writing a short academic text.

20 hours lectures. 4 hours colloquium/seminar (only in spring semester). Approved term paper before access to the exam.
