Developmental Psychology 2

This course in developmental psychology is an in-depth study of selected theory and research related to childhood and adolescence. Topics explored include parent-child interaction, attachment, self-regulation, self-development, and identity and psychosocial development in adolescence. The course will highlight current research on the complex interaction between individual and environmental characteristics and illuminate the reciprocal relationship between adaptive and maladaptive development.

Knowledge:

• The student will be able to explain and discuss the key theories and empirical evidence relating to socio-emotional development from infancy through young adulthood.
• The student will be able to describe the factors that promote and inhibit development from a nuanced perspective.
• The student will be able to discuss how development takes place as a result of a complex interaction between the individual and the environment.

Skills :

• The student will be able to apply developmental psychology models, and master a nuanced and critical understanding of key issues within developmental psychology.
• The student will be able to comprehend and examine research papers and professional publications in the field of developmental psychology

General competence:

• The student will be able to communicate and discuss central theories, issues, and debates within the selected thematic areas.
• The student will be able to exchange views and experiences based on a developmental psychology perspective.

Lectures 2 hours per week. Some lectures might be given in English.
