Clinical Practice 2

The aim of the course is to make the students acquainted with clinical psychological work, especially focusing on the importance of communication skills and relational competence in clinical practice.

Knowledge:
The student has knowledge of what clinical psychological work imply and acknowledge the importance of personal competence in practicing clinical psychology.
Skills:
The student has experienced preparing and presenting their own «story of my life». This exercise has also given the student experience of being active, empathic listener and has practiced how to give feedback to each other.
General competence:
The student is familiar with the professional and personal development required in clinical practice. The student is aware of the relationship between personal qualifications and professional competence in clinical practice. By presenting their own “story of my life”, as well as actively listening to the classmates’ stories, the student has experienced both the “therapist” and the “patient” roles.

Except some mutual lectures, the class will be divided into groups of about 10 students, same groups as for PSYPRO4201. Activity in groups consisting of practical exercises related to the psychologist role (communication and empathy) in addition to the presentation of life history. Mandatory attendance to lectures and groups as well as practice and submitting written note. The student need at least 80% attendance at lectures to be approved. This course is evaluated according to the Guidelines for the implementation and evaluation of clinical practice.
