Introduction to Social and Personality Psychology

Social and Personality Psychology functions as a foundational course with a focus on how people’s thoughts, feelings and behaviours differ from person to person, and how they are affected by the factual, perceived or assumed presence of other people. The taught components delve into the core perspectives within these domains and integrates them into the explanation of human behaviours. This is achieved through a focus on theory, methodology, and research results. 

Knowledge ·The student has a fundamental knowledge of the core perspectives within the field of social and personality psychology ·The student has a fundamental knowledge of certain domains within the field of social psychology, specifically regarding: how we experience and evaluate ourselves and others; attitudes and social influences; and co-operation and group behaviours. This also covers the themes of prejudice, discrimination and conflicts, friendship and love, and helpfulness and aggression. ·The student has a fundamental knowledge of the core domains within the field of personality psychology, regarding how one measures personality, how it is structured, how stable it is, and the way that personality manifests in behaviours.   Skills ·The student can define the central concepts within the field of social and personality psychology. ·The student can explain and discuss various methods and basic results from the field of social and personality psychology. ·The student can outline, discuss and compare various fundamental theories within the field of social and personality psychology. General competence ·The student can communicate using academic reasoning and exchange viewpoints with others who have a background within the field of social and personality psychology.
