Research Design and Social Inquiry

The course aims to show the scope of social science research methods and methodology, including research design and relevant philosophy of science.

Knowledge - the student shall:

• have knowledge about theory of science and methods in political science, with the primary emphasis on qualitative methods
• have knowledge about the methods and techniques associated with small-N research designs

Skills - the student shall have the ability to:

• use social science research methods to plan different kinds of research tasks

Class meets for 4 hours per week in half of the semester or 2 hours per week throughout the semester. The class meetings are divided between lectures in plenum and smaller group exercises.

The language of instruction can be English or Norwegian.
