Scientific Theory and Research Methods

The course provides a broad introduction to educational research methodology, which includes quantitative, qualitative and historical/text analytical approaches to educational issues. This includes knowledge of the scientific theoretical basis for research. Further the course provides basic knowledge of statistics.

This course provides a broad theoretical insight and knowledge about:
- Scientific work.
- Different research approaches and applications.
- Basic statistical concepts and applications.


The course provides a basis for carrying out your own master project.

6 hours of lectures and 2 hours of seminars per week in weeks 34-43, of which 4 hours of lecture and 1 hour seminar is devoted to science and research methodology, and 2 hours of lecture and 1 hour of seminar for statistics.


Course requirements:
- Project Development Seminar. Lectures/seminars 2 hours per week in weeks 34-41. Developing your own project and project issue by October 15th.
- Completed introduction course in statistics.
- Approved participation in SPSS course.


Examination: Individual assignment in science and research methodology (8-10 pages), counting 2/3 of final the grade and a written exam in statistics, counting 1/3 of the final grade. Both the written exam and the term paper must be passed.
