Educational Research Methods

An introduction into quantitative method, qualitative method and historical method will be offered. Scientific theoretical problems will be discussed, and related to each of these methods. Teaching is organised as lectures, seminars and exercises. Students studying for a Master in Education majoring in Education and Upbringing are recommended to follow this course in their first semester.

The aim of the course is to make students capable of assessing scientific work and planning and carrying their out own research.

Teaching method and activities: 8 hours of lectures and seminars/exercises per week. Participation in exercises is compulsory. Within each of the fields quantitative method, qualitative method and historical method, students are to hand in an obligatory assessment based on exercises.
Compulsory activity: 70% participation in seminars/exercises.
Form of assessment: a) Handed in obligatory assessments and b) 8-hour individual written exam. The written exam will consist of one or more tasks from one or more of the following fields; quantitative method, qualitative method and historical method. When calculating the final grade, the obligatory assessments count for 40% and the written task for 60 %.
