Norwegian for Foreigners 3, partly online course over 2 semesters, campus Ålesund and campus Gjøvik

Throughout the course special emphasis will be given to verb forms (tense and mood) and nuances in expression (pragmatics), in addition to further strengthening of the grammar from the two lowest levels. Civilization is part of the curriculum in this level, either in the form of a single work (for example Ellingsen and MacDonald: Her på berget), or in the form of free-standing texts of similar size and subject. Some of the subjects may be addressed with literary texts. The intent is to provide students with an insight into modern Norwegian community life and its historical background.

KNOWLEDGE:

The candidate's level of knowledge is equivalent to Level B2/C1 in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

SKILLS:

The candidate

• can understand lectures given in Norwegian
• can read Norwegian texts
• can express him or herself in descriptive, narrative and persuasive genres.
• is able to converse on a wide variety of subjects

3 hours seminars/group work per week, 2 hours of online tuition and 1 hour of tuition with physical attendance on campus. Students need to hand in and have approved at least six papers by the end of the course. Some of them should be in a persuasive genre. One of the written works may be a larger paper. The candidate must also give an oral presentation during the course.

Attendance is compulsory for the first lecture.
