Aural Training and Conducting

Aural training develops the students ability to define musical structures, translate them from sounding expressions to notation or vice versa. Conducting contains directing techniques, and leading an ensemble.

Knowledge:
An examinee with a completed qualification in MUSV2020 has deepened knowledge of
- principles of melody, rhythm, harmony and form
- music theory
- conducting of choirs and small ensembles

Skills:
An examinee with a completed qualification in MUSV2020
- can work goal oriented and independent
- can perceive and reproduce melodies, rhythms, formal and harmonic progressions from different musical styles and traditions at a higher level than what is required in MUSV1018
- can rehearse and conduct music for choirs and small ensembles
- can show musicality, technical skill and music theoretic insight in practical performance at a higher level than what is required in MUSV1018

Group instruction. In order to take the final exam satisfactory participation in compulsory instruction and delivery of exercises is required. To pass the course the student must attend a minimum of 80% of all group instructions.

Getting a "not approved" in one of the compulsory components means retaking that particular component, which will have to be approved in order to take the final examination.

Conducting is assessed with approved/not approved after a practical presentation that must be approved before the final exam in aural training.

Assessment: The course concludes with a practical examination (ca. 30 min) and a portfolio in aural training. The portfolio can contain up to 12 written exercises.
