Basic Music Technology

The course contains the following main elements:

Introduction to basic acoustic theory and digital representation of music, techniques for digital recording and processing of sound and MIDI, arrangment, composition, mixing and performance with digital audio workstation software, signal processing and audio synthesis.

Knowledge:

At the end of the course the candidate should have knowledge about:

• basic principles of MIDI and sampling
• how digital audio workstation software can be used for sound and music production
• basic techniques of audio synthesis and signal processing

Skills:

At the end of the course, the candidate should be able to:

• use digital audio workstation software to arrange/compose/produce/perform music
• use graphical programming tools for signal processing and audio synthesis
• write a report describing and justifying the aesthetic and technical choices made in a music production

Lectures, group teaching and exercises. There will be up to 12 exercises.

Instruction is obligatory and demands minimum 80% attendance.
