Principal Instrument B

The course is mainly an independent study and the student must participate in performing projects. In addition, the student must participate as a soloist or with chamber-music in a minimum of two concerts, including one concert organised by Department of music. The concerts must be documented in a confirmed semester-report.

Compulsory course in Instrument Knowledge/Voice Physiology: The course is primarily offered in the second year of study, but several classes containing few students from various instrument groups may be combined. As a result of this the student will be able to continue at MUSP4130 without having completed this part of MUSP4120.

The candidate:
-Shows skills in artistic expression and can relate to the audience in different performing settings.
-Has instrumental/vocal skills on a level that makes he/she able to carry out their artistic intentions.
-Can work goal-oriented and independent, alone and together with others. -Has knowledge about and controls relevant techniques in interpretation, practicing, musical performance preparations, and how to prevent body strain damages.
-Has developed good ear and listening skills in the work with the main instrument.
-Has basic knowledge of the history, construction and function of her/his instrument.
-Has basic knowledge of the main content of the repertoire on their instrument.

Individual instruction for 1 hour a week for 27 weeks.
Individual instruction - 0.5 hour lesson with a secondary instrument for 27 weeks in selected instrument groups.
Interpretation - 2 group lessons for 20 weeks.
Ensemble - 2 group lessons for 10 weeks.
(Interpretation and ensemble may be rearranged.)
Accompaniment-30 minutes lessons per week for 27 weeks for singers and relevant instruments.
Project - various forms of instruction.
Principal instrument report must be submitted at the end of autumn and spring term.

Compulsory course in Instrument Knowledge/Voice Physiology:
Instruction: Up to 10 lessons in groups of the same instrument/instrument family.
Assessment: Pass/fail based on participation in compulsory instruction. Song students must pass an written assignment at the end of the course.
