Music, technology and education

The aim of this course is to develop digital competences for teachers in lower and upper secondary school, and to give a wholesome introduction to the field of music, technology and education. The main components are the use of hardware and software for producing, composing and performing music in different learning spaces, critical assessment of music technologies constraints and affordances in different educational settings, designing lessons, as well as research based knowledge of music technologies place and role in the school system, in contemporary children's, youth and screen cultures, and in the professional field of music. The course also aims to develop relevant listening competence, understandings of technologies effect on learning and knowledge outcomes, as well as perspectives on technology, access and availability.

• has thorough research-based knowledge of music technology in and out of school
• has advanced knowledge of different software and hardware usable in music education
• ​has thorough research-based understanding of perspectives on music teaching and music technology, linked to contemporary children's, youth and screen culture, learning and knowledge outcomes as well as access and availability

• can independently produce, compose and perform music with a selection of technologies
• can critically assess affordances and constraints of different technologies in educational contexts
• can independently plan, carry out, analyze and relate critically to teaching with music technologies in different learning spaces
• can relate critically to Copyright laws related to teaching and education
• can reflect upon technologies effect on and changes of music as a school subject
• can reflect upon and discuss connections between technology, access and availability

• can cooperate on innovation processes with pupils, colleagues and legal guardians to maintain the music subject´s relevance in line with the technological development
