Music, technology and education

The course aims to develop professional digital competence in music education and provide a comprehensive introduction to the field of music, technology and education. The main components include the use of hardware and software to produce, compose, and perform music, critical assessment of the affordances and constraints of technology in diferent educational contexts, and the development of educational designs where technology and digital tools are embedded. The course emphasizes exploratory approaches and co-created learning, where educational and music pedagogical competence is developed at the intersection of theory and practice.

Knowledge

The student is expected do develop

• advanced knowledge of various types of software and hardware and how these can be integrated into music education

• in-depth research-based understanding of perspectives on music education and music technology

Skills

The student is expected to know how to

• independently produce, compose, and perform music with a selection of technologies

• critically assess the affordances and constraints of various technologies and digital tools in music education

• independently plan, carry out, evaluate, analyze, and critically relate to teaching with music technology

General competence

The student is expected to be able to

• further develop their professional digital competence and stay updated with a high degree of independence throughout their career

• collaborate on innovation processes with peers, pupils, colleagues, and legal guardians to maintain the music subject´s relevance in line with technological developments
