Composition and musical production in school

Course content

The course focuses on different kinds of musical productions with relevance for the school. A production is in this context defined as a planned event with artistic intention, concerts, performances, other collaborative stage performances and digital recording. During the course the student must initiate, plan, realize and evaluate different kinds of productions. The course focuses on the students' artistic and pedagogic work on composing, improvising and arranging music and dance. This involves, among other things, physical and technological working methods. Through the course, the student develops skills to compose and arrange music and dance in different ways and thought for different purposes and in different contexts, as well as develop knowledge and skills to do didactic work where elementary school students create musical productions. The course will include training on some composition and arrangement techniques, and some choreographic tools. An important part of the course is to experience a varied selection of school relevant productions through attending concerts and excursions. Through the course the student is encouraged to explore topics as collaboration, inclusion, multidisciplinary, target groups, arenas and artistic processes.

• has advanced knowledge about multidisciplinary and artistic collaboration methods and how aesthetic and artistic learning processes happen inside the frames of musical productions
• has in-depth knowledge to facilitate creative processes in composing music, dance and other artistic expression
• has advanced knowledge of a variety of instrument groups as well as level-adjusted arrangements for these
• has in-depth knowledge about how musical content can be adapted to specific forms of productions, target groups and arenas

• can establish contact with and carry out musical collaborative projects with participants outside the school
• can use compositional and arranging techniques independently for composing in a self-selected work
• can use relevant digital tools in composing processes
• can facilitate students` work with musical productions through the use of relevant methods and tools
• can critically reflect on and evaluate musical production processes regarding collaboration, inclusion, multidisciplinary and target group adaption
• can reflect on the relationship between recorded music, sounding music and dance, as well as their own creative process related to composition
• can be able to analyze and critically evaluate their own and others' musical products
