Music 1 (1-7) Subject 2

Practical musical work is the basis for everything done in the subject. The main components are: Creating, playing, experiencing and understanding music and dance, in didactic perspective, where critical thinking, craftsmanship, traditions, exploration and the students' own resources and different backgrounds are central to producing knowledge.

The subject discusses the school subject music as it is for grades 1-7 in the current year curriculum, didactic work and research linked to these steps. music technology, art-based learning, the student as a resource, equality, diversity and inclusive community are recurring themes.

Knowledge

The candidate:

• has research-based knowledge of learning practices in music and dance

• has knowledge of connections between own, local and global music didactic and artistic values, and the music subject in a social and media context

• has basic knowledge of research in the music subject

• has knowledge of digital and analogue learning tools for the music subject

• has updated research-based knowledge about musical knowledge systems and practices among minorities and indigenous people in Norway

Skills

The candidate

• has tools for critically discussing the history and role of the music subject in society, including marginalized and dominant musical and music didactic practices

• has tools for listening and actively using sound and music repertoire from various contexts in, among other things, improvisation, practice and composition

• can critically take a stand on, and independently develop different approaches to creating and performing music and dance

• can facilitate group playing and singing, and facilitate music lessons that ensure participation and healthy use of the voice

• can use digital and analogue technology appropriately

General competence

The candidate must develop competence

• in how to understand and strengthen the roles and potential of art subjects in school and society

• in how to participate actively and constructively in collaboration with other colleagues

• for independent and continuous development of own practice

The teaching methods change between group teaching, lectures and group work. The students will participate in a learning process where they develop knowledge, skills and general competence in the subject by working with the production, interpretation and dissemination of music. This includes a large degree of personal effort. Students will receive guidance on parts of the work individually and in groups. Emphasis is placed on process-oriented teaching and the development of critical perspectives, with student-active forms of work with music making, creation and exploration as core elements.
