ICT and Learning (5-10)

The course ICT and Learning has three main parts:
1. ICT pedagogy – how to use ICT tools in teaching
2. Different ICT tools and social media
3. How can knowledge about pedagogic ICT be useful in any subject?

ICT and Learning includes all pedagogic use of ICT in teaching. This course will have a systematic approach to different types of ICT and pedagogic and didactical possibilities. Furthermore it will include ethics and knowledge about pupils and students, and it will question how pedagogic and didactic use of ICT tools differs from a common use of such tools: How do pupils use ICT and social media on a daily basis? When and why will ICT based teaching be expedient? How can classroom management be in an environment with high density of technology? In addition to a lot of practical and creative approaches to tablets, social media, games, programming, digital stories etc. the teaching of the course will be of a varied nature, with guest speakers and project and group based activities.

KNOWLEDGE
The students
- will have knowledge about how ICT skills can be meade a part of any subject in school
- will have knowledge about classroom management in surroundings with high density of technology
- will have knowledge about when and why it will be expedient to base the teaching on ICT
- will have knowledge about student active learning with the use of ICT tools
- will have knowledge about different computer games and consciousness, possibilities and challenges connected to such games
- will have basic knowledge about physical ICT technology, including smart phones, tablets, computers, Smartboard, Office/Google etc.
- will have knowledge about different dimensions concerning social media connected to learning and safe use of such media
- will have knowledge about making basic collection of data through use computer technology
- will have knowledge about ethical theories and use of these in context with current relevant issues
- will have knowledge about misuse and unwanted behaviour in context with the use of ICT tools (for instance digital bullying)
- will have knowledge about multitasking and shared attention
- will have knowledge about privacy and data security

SKILLS
The student
- can plan, implement and assess ICT based teaching in an independent and professionally way
- will be able to understand and discuss the question about who is deciding the premises for technological development and why it is important that schools and teachers are competent in using this type of technology for teaching purposes
- can use different ICT technology for varied, student active and engaging teaching methods
- can use ICT to explore, compare and work in a critical and analytic manner in teaching and learning
- can cooperate with other teachers, pupils and parents about relevant issues
- can reflect upon the content of and the value proposition for the subject and upon the relation between subject, teaching and the student’s own professional development
- can use digital educational resources in a critical and pedagogical way

GENERAL COMPETENCE
The student
- is work ethically competent and can see this independent from trends and popular notions
- can facilitate for cooperation between the parents and guardians, the school and the local environment

The course will offer a variety of teaching methods, including guest speakers and project and group based activities. In the lessons the students will have the opportunity to discuss theory and didactics, they will work with case studies, exchange experiences with each other, and take part in problem based learning.

The experiences and different approaches throughout the course will be assessed through production of short reports and other products.

The students will choose and develop a project which they shall assess and defend the didactic and practical value of.

The students will be assessed on the basis of their reports, products and their project work
