Cultural heritage law and management

The course provides insight into how laws and regulations are practiced and how cases are prepared and implemented within administrative bodies that are responsible for Norwegian planning and building legislation. The focus is on use of legal instruments in accordance with the Planning and Building Act on buildings worthy of protection and the cultural environment. The course is based on a similar course at BA in Cultural Heritage Law, but will to a greater extent focus on issues related to practice in cultural heritage institutions.

A candidate who has passed the course is expected to have the following total learning outcomes in accordance with the study plan's description for the course, defined as knowledge and skills:

• have good knowledge of the planning and building law's relevant legal rules, with special focus on planning work and construction cases when treating buildings worthy of protection
• have practical and theoretical knowledge of public proceedings in the field of planning and building law

Skills

• have knowledge of the use of relevant legal issues
• have processing competence in the area of planning and building law, with special emphasis on the cultural heritage law issues
• can understand and use legal language, and can identify legal issues
• know the legal instruments in planning and building protection.
