Introduction to Art History

The course is an introduction to Art History as a field of study and academic discipline, with the aim of providing the student with skills in working with academic material and -literature. The student will be introduced to the distinctive character of the academic field, its forms of expression and relevant avenues of inquiry. The student will be provided with skills in academic writing and reading through chosen art works and written sources.

The course is part of the Bachelor's and the one-year programme in Art History.

Upon successful completion of the course the student will have:
- Knowledge about academic thinking and writing, on the basis of the academic field's central subjects or forms of expression.

Skills
Upon successful completion of the course the student will know how to:
- use subject-specific, academic ways of thinking and writing for understanding, evaluate, analyse, and discuss the academic field's central subjects or forms of expression.

Instruction normally consist of lectures. An obligatory written assignment must be approved before the student can take the final examination of the course.

Students are required to stay updated on any information given by the department or course director via Blackboard.

This course is taught in Norwegian only.
